Calvary University is a Christian institution located in Kansas City, Missouri. Calvary Bible College was founded in 1932. It provides a variety of associate and bachelor’s degrees, as well as an adult degree completion program and online programs. The Graduate School offers Master of Science (MS) degrees in Organization Development, Music, and Education, while the Seminary offers Master of Arts (MA), Master of Divinity (M.Div.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Bible and Theology. The total enrolment in 2019 was 430, with 348 undergraduate students and 82 graduate students.
Calvary University was formed in 1961 by the amalgamation of two small Bible institutions in St. Louis, Kansas City Bible College (founded in 1932) and Midwest Bible College (founded in 1938). Calvary Bible College was formed when the two colleges relocated to a location in the Kansas City suburb of Prairie Village, Kansas. Citadel Bible College of Ozark, Arkansas, merged in 1987. Calvary relocated to 1111 West 39th Street in Kansas City in 1966, where it remained until 1980. It relocated to its current site on the grounds of the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base.
Calvary rebranded as Calvary University in mid-2016 for a variety of reasons, including increased difficulty for graduates to find employment with a Bible college degree, increased difficulty in accessing some countries for missions with a Bible college degree, the perception that a Bible college only prepares people for full-time church ministry, and the perception that a Bible college offers a lower quality of education. Furthermore, Calvary’s goal, degree programs, accreditation, and undergraduate and graduate divisions go beyond the usual Bible college classification. [3] [4]
