Within the health care and research sector, the University of Cape Town’s Faculty of Health Sciences (Medical School) offers a variety of educational, training, and academic career choices. The University of Cape Town Medical School was founded in 1912 and was the first medical school in Sub-Saharan Africa. Times Higher Education ranks them as one of the top 50 health sciences faculties in the world.
The medical school at UCT is divided into 13 academic departments, and its programs include undergraduate and postgraduate instruction, clinical services, and research. In order to enroll in postgraduate or undergraduate programs, students must meet both the university and faculty requirements.

The following are the entrance requirements:

Undergraduates:

  • APS (Admission Point Score) score of 463/600
  • FPS (Faculty Point Score) score of 628/900
  • WPS score of 764 (628+135.6) for South African applicants only

Postgraduates:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant topics or other degrees that could be regarded equivalent

Honors:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a specific major subject

Masters:

  • An Honours degree in the topic that the candidate desires to pursue at the Master’s level is equivalent to a Master’s degree.

Doctorates:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
