International and RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) applications can now be submitted online.

Admission Requirements

  • Under Courses and costs, you may find the prerequisites for the various courses CPUT offers. In order to help with placement, you could also be asked to take a number of examinations.

Students using the Cambridge system should be aware of the following requirements:

  • At least five IGCSE and HIGCSE topics must be passed, at least two of which must be at the HIGCSE level.
  • a passing grade in the primary language of instruction at the university (English or Afrikaans).
  • particular passing scores: A, B, or C for IGCSE; 1, 2, or 3 for HIGCSE.

Any additional senior school credentials will be evaluated.

assessment of foreign credentials

  • All overseas undergraduate and postgraduate degrees must first be examined and certified by the South African Qualifications Authority before applying to study at CPUT (SAQA). It must be submitted with both your paper application and your online application.

Because it can take a little longer, the student is responsible for applying to SAQA as soon as possible.

SAQA will only accept online applications for overseas applicants beginning in August 2014. please click here

The following should be included in your application:

  • The recognized testing organization provides all certifications, including the highest school diploma.
  • When a post-graduate degree or other advanced degree is filed, the final certificates for all degrees or other higher education qualifications, as well as transcripts of all academic work, are completed.
  • Foreign-language documents must be accompanied by sworn English translations performed by a certified translator.

linguistic proficiency in English

  • To succeed in your studies, you must have a certain level of English proficiency. A passing grade in English at the A- or O-level, a TOEFL score of at least 550, or an International Testing System score of 6.5 are all acceptable proofs of proficiency (IELTS). Any additional post-secondary English language credentials will be considered.
  • The Fundani Centre for Higher Educational Development assists students in improving their English proficiency within their field of study through a mentorship program.
