BURSARIES: A bursary is a type of financial aid given to a student for additional study or training. Bursaries vary in terms of monetary value and duration. Students are chosen based on various criteria established by donors, which may include academic merit and financial need. Some bursaries require students to sign a contract agreeing to work for the donor after graduation.
STUDY LOANS: A loan is money borrowed that must be repaid when you finish your studies. Banks and financial institutions such as Eduloan offer loans. The NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is a South African government-funded structure that provides financial and academic assistance to students who are academically deserving. CUT’s Financial Aid offices are where students can apply for this type of loan. Depending on the end-of-year results, up to 40% of this type of loan can be converted into a bursary.
