We take pleasure in being an international university, with overseas students accounting for roughly one-third of our student body.

At the moment, we have 16 South African students studying with us at our Edinburgh Campus at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research levels.

Johanna Hall, BA (Hons) Industrial Design in Textiles

I am currently self-employed and work in three areas: artisan sauce manufacturing (Worcester sauce from Worcester RSA! ), animal portraits, and hand-weaving.

The Textiles School has an excellent reputation among industry professionals, and I had no trouble obtaining job after graduation. The training was unusual in its balancing of technical and creative aspects of textile design. My employment required manufacturing fabric for commercial use as well as having the presentation abilities to promote the product imaginatively, so the skills I developed were vital for a career in industry. Equivalent courses in other parts of the UK were either overly technical or overly fine-arts oriented.

What I most appreciated about my studies was the ability to be creative, the outstanding tuition, and the friends I made, many of whom I am still in contact with now, despite the fact that many of us emigrated.
