Northlink School was founded in 2002 following the merger of four universities in Cape Town’s northern rural areas, specifically Wingfield Technical College (three campuses: Wingfield, Goodwood, and Table Bay), Tygerberg College (Tygerberg and Parow), Protea College, and Bellville Technical College. Northlink purchased Belhar College, a private foundation, in 2005.
The name is a combination of the words “north” and “connect,” and it reflects the organization’s geological location in the area (which portrays the underlying connection of the previous universities). More importantly, it demonstrates the fundamental link between academic training and the world of work.
