To encourage quality in the subject matter and delivery of the CA(SA) education programs, the universities are closely inspected.
The SAICA plays a significant role in promoting quality with regard to programs leading to the qualification as a CA because it is the only professional accounting association that is registered with the Education and Training Quality Authority (ETQA) (SA). As a result, it only acknowledges that select colleges’ programs satisfy the requirements for aspiring CAs(SA).

Mandi Olivier, SAICA’s Project Director of Education, explains that even though SAICA only accredits the program and not the institution, students enrolling in a university in order to become a CA(SA) must ensure that the institution offers a program that SAICA has accredited and that the program they enroll in is SAICA-accredited. “An institution may grant a BCom Accounting degree, however graduates from that school will not be allowed to appear for the Part I qualifying test if the relevant program is not authorized by SAICA.”
