• South African citizens in need are given social grants by the government. In South Africa, SASSA is in charge of social grants. People who are at risk of falling into poverty and require government assistance to improve their standard of living are eligible for social grants. The elderly, people with disabilities, and parents with young children are frequently among these. A South African citizen, legal permanent resident, or refugee must apply for a social grant (proof of such status must be provided). They must be South African citizens as well.
