This section is a list of the Sassa payment due dates for 2024 and 2025.

  • Since COVID-19 is still a problem in South Africa, SASSA had to develop a plan for how it would operate throughout the epidemic. They determined that their offices could only assist so many individuals each day, thus specific days have been designated for applications for disability grants.
  • The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offers the Disability Grant to help people with disabilities afford their essential living expenses. If you want to apply for a social grant, please keep in mind that applications are only accepted on certain days at SASSA’s offices.
  • To apply for the Disability Grant, go to your nearest SASSA office. On Fridays, their offices will be available to assist you with your application.
  • If you are unable to travel that day, a family member or friend may apply on your behalf. All they require is a letter from you authorizing the application.

You must adhere to the following criteria in order to qualify for the Disability Grant:

  • You must be a citizen of South Africa, a refugee, or a permanent resident.
  • You must call South Africa home.
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 59.
  • You must present a medical or assessment report attesting to your severe, permanent disability.
  • Your medical evaluation must be more than three months old at the time of application.
  • The means test standards must be met by both you and your spouse.
  • In a state institution, you cannot be kept or given care.
  • You are not eligible for a second social grant.

Bring the following items with you when you apply at the SASSA office:

  • Your bar-coded South African identity document (ID).
  • Your pay stub, bank statements for the last three months, pension slips, and any other proof of income.
  • If you’re unemployed, you’ll need to show your Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) card – also known as a “blue book” – or a discharge document from your prior employer.
  • Proof of your medical evaluation.
  • You do not need to pay anything to apply.

The SASSA offices will process your application. When your application is complete, you will be given a receipt, which you must keep secure as proof of application.

If your application is rejected, you should be informed in writing. Within 90 days of obtaining the outcome, you may request that SASSA review your application. If your application is still denied, you may file an appeal with the Minister of Social Development.

The Overstrand Thusong Service Center in Hawston will accept social handouts from 8:00 to 15:00.

SASSA on cards being valid beyond 31 March 2021

  • The SASSA-SAPO Card will not expire on March 31 as claimed on social media, according to the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). These assertions are untrue. The expiration date of SASSA Cards is March 31.
  • Although no timeframe is specified in the SA Reserve Bank report, the cards must be replaced. The entire public will eventually be able to learn more about the new card.
  • Clients of SASSA who are currently paid by the South African Post Office (SAPO) are not required to switch to a different payment option, but they are free to do so if they so choose. After April, they will still receive compensation on their current SASSA-SAPO card.
