• The South African government provides social grants to citizens in need. The SASSA is in charge of social grants in South Africa. Social grants are available to those who are at risk of living in poverty and who need help from the government to raise their standard of living. Oftentimes, these include the elderly, those with disabilities, and parents of young children. To be eligible for a social grant, you must be a South African citizen, legal permanent resident, or refugee (proof of such status must be provided). Additionally, they must be South African citizens.
