Any married applicant must provide supporting documents for both himself/herself and his/her spouse for any grant applications; failure to do so may result in your application being declined. |  |

If SASSA does not approve your application, you must be informed in writing of the reason for the rejection. You then have the option to appeal this decision, but you must do so within 90 days of receiving the decision letter. | |

SASSA will conduct a means test for you and your spouse if you are married. The asset and income thresholds are subject to change, so it is best to double-check this on a yearly basis. | |

All documents, whether submitted in person or online, must be certified. | |

When contacting SASSA, keep in mind that the Customer Care charter states that you will be given a reference number to follow up on your inquiry. | |

Clients who marry are encouraged to notify SASSA of the change. SASSA validates all clients’ information monthly with the Department of Home Affairs, and if details do not match, the application for that period may be denied. | |

It is not necessary to withdraw funds on the first day. The money will remain in the account until it is needed. | |
