The information in this post relates to the Sassa 2024–2025 application.
The term “social award,” which is referred to by the acronym SASSA, refers to financial aid provided by the government to South Africans in need. Social awards in South Africa are handled by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). People who are helpless in the face of poverty and rely on government assistance are given social awards in an effort to advance social norms. These frequently include elderly individuals, those with disabilities, and parents of young children.
All applicants for social grants must be South African citizens, lawful permanent residents, or refugees (proof of such status must be provided). They must also be residents of South Africa. Social aid is given in the following ways:
- Grant for older persons
- Disability grant
- War veterans grant
- Care dependency grant
- Foster child grant
- Child support grant
- Grant-in-aid
- Social Relief of Distress
