The Sassa grants for the fiscal years 2024–2025 are covered in great depth on this page.

  • The South African government provides social subsidies to citizens in need. The SASSA is in charge of social grants in South Africa. Social grants are offered to those who are on the verge of going hungry and require assistance from the government to enhance their standard of living. Among these are typically the elderly, those with impairments, and parents of young children. To be eligible for a social grant, you must be a South African citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or a refugee (proof of such status must be provided). They must be South African nationals as well.

What is a means test?

  • Some social benefits, such as child support, disability, care dependency, and social relief of distress, are subject to a “means test.” SASSA will use a means test to determine whether you are eligible for a social grant based on your income and assets. The means test determines whether you are eligible for a grant for people who cannot afford to live independently.

Care dependency allowance

Care dependency grants may be available to parents with disabled children who are full-time workers. What amount of money will be distributed overall as part of this grant?

  • R1 860 per child, per month.

How do you know if you’re approved for the grant?

  • To qualify for the care dependency award, the kid must be under the age of 18 and medically determined to be permanently disabled. If you’re married, both you and your spouse need to meet the means test eligibility standards. You can use the articles on this page to assist you with your Sassa application.

My application status

  • After receiving a social grant, a person is not eligible to receive additional social relief from hardship. Any individual who receives grants in addition to social assistance is obligated to repay the amount of social aid they received. This amount will be deducted from any outstanding social grant payments in the future. However, no cash will be given back if the receiver of a social grant also got aid during a disaster.
