The Tsolo Agriculture and Rural Development Institute (“TARDI”), formerly the Tsolo College of Agriculture, is located in the Mhlontlo Local Municipality, a rural municipality in the Eastern Cape with a population of roughly 194 000.
Tsolo college of Agriculture Courses
- ND: Diploma in Animal Health
Graduates with a diploma from this program should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of animal health and aptitude for using it practically in the field to prevent sickness.
- Assist new livestock producers, rural semi-commercial farmers, and commercial farmers with basic veterinary care.
- Perform general epidemiological surveys and minor procedures as prescribed by the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
- Continue to learn and equip themselves with new skills in the field of animal health, veterinary science, and other related agricultural disciplines.
- It is necessary to demonstrate both veterinary public health knowledge and the ability of meat examiners to perform primary meat inspection.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct TB and Br examination and testing.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct artificial insemination.
- Display professional behavior in accordance with the South African Veterinary Council’s (SAVC) guidelines, as well as honesty, timeliness, animal handling ethics, and strong client connections.
Rules of Admission
- A National Senior Certificate is a requirement for the application (with the Diploma pass option).
- A total of 24 points must have been obtained by the candidate. Each subject’s level on the certificate is equal to points (for example, English level 4 equals 4 points) (Excluding Life Orientation)
- If the applicant took six subjects at matric, they were only allowed to take one topic at level 1, or two if they took seven or more.
- The applicant must have a pass in English at level 3 or higher.
- The applicant must have a pass in Mathematics at level 3 or higher.
- The applicant must have a pass in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences at level 3 or higher.
