Many South African students never complete or even begin their matric year due to a variety of factors, including leaving school to support their financially strapped families. Others discover that they are in the same boat as those who did not complete their matriculation year.
Most of these students wish to try to finish their matriculation at a later time so they can apply for specific jobs or to colleges or universities. There are currently several alternatives to the sometimes-required return to high school to retake the matriculation year.

So, is it possible to graduate from a TVET college?

The response is that you can.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges are academic institutions where students receive instruction and preparation for a particular set of jobs, employment opportunities, or entrepreneurial opportunities. Students may be eligible for admission to a University of Technology to continue their studies at a higher level in the same subject of study after earning a qualification at a TVET College.
People who have passed Grade 9 are given the opportunity to complete matric at TVET Colleges, and there is typically no age restriction. A National Vocational Certificate (NCV) is available at Levels 2, 3, and 4, which correspond to Grades 10, 11, and 12.

So, in order to complete matric, all you need to do is earn an NCV Level 4, which is equivalent to a Matric Certificate academically, at a TVET college.

However, technical skills are where an NCV qualification places its focus.

Normal registration for Matric retakes is limited to subjects that students have already failed or completed and wish to improve; in other words, you cannot switch out one subject for another.

In this case, the student should contact the appropriate TVET College and inquire about retaking the matriculation exam. Several TVET colleges even offer the option to retake Matric, either part-time or full-time.

Is matric an option in college?

You can complete your Matric in a college, yes. Through Matric College, you can take the Adult Matric Course. Adult learners without a Matric are welcome to enroll in this program. They take this course to learn about many subjects.

Is matric necessary to enroll in a TVET college?

You can attend TVET or FET colleges even if you have not completed high school. It also provides useful workplace skills through classroom instruction. As part of your practicals and training, you will be required to work in the industry you are studying.
