Know that the admission requirements for the university you are applying to are key if you are submitting your application online. Unisa is a great example that uses online application requirements. The documents below are the general requirements for the University of South Africa (Unisa)

  • Your admission to Unisa as a prospective student depends on you fulfilling all of the relevant admission requirements for your desired qualification. If you don’t meet these criteria, you might want to look into different qualifications. Click here to visit the qualifications page for undergraduate qualifications.
  • Unisa qualifications have limited small spaces available. Therefore meeting the general and / or specific admission requirements for a qualification does not give the green light that you will be given space for this academic year to study.
  • A conduct Certificate and a certified copy of your official academic transcript are needed.
  • The SAQA evaluation and the syllabus must be submitted by all international applicants.

Note to new applicants: Unisa Admission Requirements

  • A calculation of your individual points score, which is at the center of the selection process, is made using your final Grade 12 grades as well as other important details like the school you attended.
  • Before applying, please check whether you meet the statutory and college-specific admission requirements, and the needed academics points score (APS) for your chosen qualification(s). A higher certificate requires a minimum APS of 15, a diploma minimum APS of 18, and a bachelor’s degree with a minimum APS of 21 or more (some exceptions apply).

Check your documents to ensure that you are ready to apply.

The following documents must be scanned and uploaded to a computer.

When starting a new qualification, applicants must upload all relevant documents, which frequently include:

  • a photocopy of your academic transcript (eg Senior Certificate)
  • a certified copy of any relevant tertiary academic records (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • a copy of your identification (if you are an RSA student) or your passport (international students)
  • a copy of your divorce decree or marriage certificate, whichever is appropriate (if applicable)
  • A sworn translation must be provided if a document is not in English or Afrikaans.
  • Unisa reserves the right to request original papers at any time and/or to verify the authenticity of the documents presented.
  • It is against the law to submit forged documents, according to the Student Disciplinary Code.

How do I go about applying?

  • Only a few Short Learning Programs accept online applications; download the application guidelines here.

Every applicant for a new Short Learning Programme must submit the necessary paperwork. The application deadline is the deadline for uploading the required files. No documents will be accepted after the application deadline.

Unisa does not provide electrical equipment or scanners. Before beginning the application process, please ensure that your documents have been scanned and transferred to an electronic device.

I am confident that the scanning of my documents met the specifications.
When completing the online application, pay close attention to the instructions. Upload only the documents that are required as separate files; do not upload the entire set of documents in a single file.

  • No file can be more than 2MB in size (2048KB).
  • Papers must be in black and white to be submitted.
  • DOC (Word document file), PDF (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format file), and TIF (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format file) files are not permitted (image file)
