Over the years, the institution has gone by several names, including Technical College of Venda, Finyazwanda, and Vocational College of Venda. It later contributed to the establishment of Mavhoi Technical College in 1983, giving some of the staff members opportunities to demonstrate their skills at the newly established college. As a result of the merger of the technical colleges, the organization established a new technical college in Mashamba in 2002.
