Sassa increased its awards in October, thus recipients of various social grants should anticipate an increase in their monthly payments.

In October 2022, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) boosted social benefits. The R350 SRD grant has been extended for a further year, which will likely please its recipients.

To provide South African citizens with social support, grants only slightly increased.

The subsequent social grants will rise in the following ways:

  • Older Age (60-74 years old) will increase from R1980 to R1990
  • Older Age (75+ years) will increase from R2000 to R2010
  • War Veteran will increase from R1980 to R1990
  • Disability will increase from R1980 to R1990
  • Care Dependency will increase from R1980 to R1990

These Sassa grants have all gone up by R10.

The Foster Care Grant, Child Support Grant, and Grant-In-Aid have not increased because they already did so in April 2022 by an additional R20 each.

To better the lives of the nation’s orphaned children, the Child Support Grant (CSG) Top-up will be implemented, according to Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu.

Orphaned children’s caregivers are able to apply for the CSG Top-up, which entitles them to R480 plus R240 more each month, for a total of R720 per child.
