Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Accommodation 2024-2025

The Nelson Mandela University offers various types of residences for students at various stages of development. Summerstrand North, South, Second Avenue, and George Campus all have residences. On the Summerstrand Campus, there are also three senior undergraduate residences and a Post Graduate Student Village (PGSV).

Residence Fees

Residence Down Payments, Deposits & Registration Fees

Before down payments can be made, all outstanding academic and residential debt must be paid off. Before registering for residence, every prospective resident student is required to pay a residence down-payment fee. Post-dated cheques for down payments are not accepted.

Down Payment Exemptions

Sponsored students, NFSAS successful candidates, and Nelson Mandela University bursary students are exempt from paying the residence down-payment if any outstanding debt is fully settled prior to registration and the bursary or loan covers accommodation fees.

Residence Registration Fees

Students who live in any of Nelson Mandela University’s residences must pay a residence registration fee. The fee is deducted from the student’s account and is due each year.

First years

Dear Applicant,

You should have gotten an SMS by now informing you of your academic and/or residence status.

Please keep the following in mind if you have received a residence status that places you in an off-campus residence:

Off-campus housing is subjected to an annual accreditation process to determine if it meets the required norms and standards.
Once this process is completed, you will be assigned to a specific residence. The placement process will begin in November.
You are welcome to browse the website to see the available residences at that time.

If you accept the offer, you will be admitted to a residence on the condition that you:

You have finally been admitted to Nelson Mandela University.
Your funding has been confirmed (NSFAS or Bursary).
You do not live in the Nelson Mandela Metro (Gqeberha/Kariega). Please keep in mind that students from the Nelson
Mandela Metro are not eligible for accredited off-campus housing.

Seniors

Senior students apply directly to the respective housing providers.

Please keep in mind that your placement in a residence is contingent on the following conditions:

You have completed the academic year 2023.
You have finally been accepted to Nelson Mandela University for the academic year 2024.
Your funding has been confirmed (NSFAS or Bursary).
You do not live in the Nelson Mandela Metro area (PE/Uitenhage/Despatch). Please keep in mind that students from the
Nelson Mandela Metro are not eligible for accredited off-campus housing.
