NSFAS Support for 2024-2025: The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government initiative in South Africa that extends financial aid to undergraduate students, assisting them in covering the expenses of their tertiary education upon completing high school. This program is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training and operates under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme Act 56 of 1999. NSFAS offers financial assistance in the form of bursaries and loans to eligible students studying at public universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges in South Africa.

What the Bursary covers

University Students

Tuition Fees
Accommodation expenses will be based on the university’s official charges, with private accommodation costs not surpassing those of university residence.
Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per year
A living allowance of R15,000 per year
Book allowances of R5200 per year
Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per year for students in catered residences

TVET College Students

NSFAS will also provide assistive devices & human support for applicants with disabilities.

Required Supporting Documents To Create NSFAS Account.

To complete your NSFAS Bursary Online Application for 2024-2025, you must have the following information:

You must possess your own phone number and email address. Additionally, a copy of your ID or birth certificate is mandatory. It’s also necessary to provide copies of identification cards for your parents, guardians, or spouse.
If applicable, one year’s worth of IRP5 or proof of income should be included, along with proof of income from your parents, guardians, or spouse.

Notably, SASSA grant beneficiaries are exempt from demonstrating proof of income.

Furthermore, all disabled applicants are required to submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure.

Applicants identified by the Department of Social Development as Vulnerable Children must also furnish a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form. This applies to NSFAS application status.

Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
Create a myNSFAS account. If you don’t know how to create, click HERE
Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
Update your personal information
Answer the questions you see on the screen
Upload all the required supporting documents
Finally, you click on ‘submit

Who qualifies for the NSFAS Funding?

Eligibility extends to all South African citizens.
Funding is available for all recipients of SASSA grants.
Applicants with a combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per annum qualify.
For individuals with disabilities, the combined household income limit is R600,000 per annum.
Students who began their studies prior to 2018 and have a household income below R122,000 per annum are eligible.
