The R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant application period is still open and will end in March of 2019. One of the most popular ways to submit an SRD grant application is online.

The South African government established a new Sassa grant known as the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, also known as the R350 grant, in response to Covid-19 and its effects on the economy.

Applicants must make sure they meet the following eligibility requirements before applying:

• Citizens of South Africa/permanent residents/refugees/asylum seekers/holders of special permits
  Unemployed
  Have no other means of earning a living or receiving financial support.
  Between the ages of 18 and 60, no other social grants, UIF, or NSFAS are received.

How to Apply for the R350 Grant Online  

• Visit the SRD website.
  Scroll down to the section titled ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant?’ and click on the yellow bar.
  Enter your mobile phone number.
  Click “send sms,” then enter the one-time pin sent by Sassa to the number.
  Continue the application process by following Sassa’s instructions.

  Send a text message to this number.
  In the Whatsapp message, include your name, surname, and ID number.
  You will then receive a message outlining the next steps you must take.

A declaration and consent form will need to be signed by every applicant because SASSA and other institutions will be working together to verify the information provided by applicants.

On one channel, you only need to apply once, and on each channel, you only need to apply once. Each applicant will only have one application processed by Sassa. SASSA will contact successful applicants once applications have been processed.
