In 1998, as part of its agenda to transform technical colleges in the Western Cape, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) consolidated the 15 existing colleges into six extensive Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges. Subsequently, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges took the place of Further Education and Training colleges under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Among these, three are situated in Cape Town, while the remaining three are located in rural areas.

- Boland College, is a rural-based institution, with five campuses: Caledon, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Strand, and Worcester, with its administrative headquarters in Stellenbosch. Four of these campuses were independent, rival institutions before the amalgamation, each with a proud history of high standards in instruction, achievement, and degree of autonomy. A fifth campus was inaugurated in Caledon in January 2002 after the merging process was finished in 2001. Each of these campuses has top-notch amenities.
