BRCC (Baton Rouge Community College) provides a nursing program designed to equip students for a registered nursing career. This program offers options for earning both an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree and a Practical Nursing (PN) certificate.
- The ASN program is a two-year program that includes both classroom instruction and clinical experiences in healthcare settings. Students will learn about nursing theories, healthcare systems, pharmacology, and patient care. Clinical experiences will allow students to practice their skills and knowledge in real-world settings.
- The PN program is a one-year program that prepares students to become licensed practical nurses. This program includes both classroom instruction and hands-on training in basic nursing skills. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) to become licensed as practical nurses.
- Both the ASN and PN programs at BRCC have competitive admission requirements, and interested students must complete prerequisite courses and meet other admission criteria before being considered for acceptance. It’s important to note that graduation from either program does not guarantee licensure as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Graduates must still pass the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN exam and meet other licensing requirements in their state.
