You are eligible to apply for a disability grant from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) if you have a physical or mental disability that prevents you from working permanently or for more than six months.

If you have a physical or mental impairment that prevents you from working and from earning a living, you can apply for a disability grant from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA). During your disability, you will receive a predetermined amount if your application is approved.

If you meet the legal requirements and a medical assessment reveals that you are unable to work due to your condition or disability, you may be eligible for a disability grant. You will receive a grant that is either temporary or permanent based on the results of your medical examination. Additionally, the assessment will indicate whether you will require a subsequent medical examination.

The grant is awarded in its entirety by SASSA, not the medical practitioner.
