What does it mean that SASSA rejected 20% of R350 SRD grant applicants because they were IRP5 registered? Find out by reading on.

The R350 Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant for unemployed citizens has been paid by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) as a part of the R500 billion social and economic support package that the president announced in April when the national lockdown started.

Many applicants were denied the R350 SRD grant, and some were informed that their records indicated they were IRP5 registered.

SASSA responded when asked what this meant by saying:

“irp5 registered means that the system has picked up an alternative income from your details.”

IRP5 is a record that lists the employer and employee’s related incomes, taxes, and related deductions at the end of each year. It is also referred to as an employee’s tax certificate.

The IRP5 form is used by employees to complete their annual income tax returns.

IRP5 Registered denotes that the SASSA system has identified an additional source of income based on the applicant’s information. This indicates that the individual is still considered to be employed by the system.

The applicant can fix this by getting in touch with SARS and updating their documentation. Additional documentation from the applicant’s previous employer might be required by SARS.

For help with this, contact SARS at 0800 00 7277 or do it online through the SARS online portal.

Once this has been updated, they may then file an appeal with SASSA. However, SASSA reminds applicants to wait as they are currently dealing with a high volume of appeals.

The process of appeals has been further slowed down by the large number of people who have appealed their applications more than once.

These applicants are also urged to exercise patience with SASSA because they are working hard to expedite the procedure and promise to get back in touch with them as soon as possible.
