Med Surg certification, also known as Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification, is a credential for registered nurses who specialize in medical-surgical nursing. This certification is offered by the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB) and is designed to validate the knowledge and expertise of nurses in this specialized field of nursing.
Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the Med Surg certification, registered nurses must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a current, unrestricted nursing license.
- Have practiced as a registered nurse for at least two years.
- Have a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in medical-surgical nursing in the last three years.
- Complete at least 30 hours of continuing education in medical-surgical nursing in the last three years.
Exam Format: The Med Surg certification exam consists of 175 multiple-choice questions, and nurses have three hours to complete the exam. The questions are designed to assess the nurse’s knowledge and expertise in medical-surgical nursing, including topics such as patient care, disease management, pharmacology, and ethics.
