MEDI-CLINIC LEARNING CENTRE (TYGERVALLEY) PROGRAM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The Nursing program has a lot of applicants. Before the application deadline, applicants must complete certain program entrance requirements.  Depending on the availability of clinical sites, approximately 50 students will be accepted into the Nursing program each fall.

Program Entrance Requirements

  • Documentation of high school graduation or a diploma equivalent to that level (formerly known as a GED).
    Algebra, biology, and chemistry proficiency in accordance with the description below by January 10, application deadline. College courses*, high school courses (taken within five years of graduation, so if you graduated in 2015 or later, you can use high school courses for fall 2023 admission), or a combination of the two can be used to meet these requirements. The most recent grade from the class will be used to meet the admission requirements for the program. Additionally, you must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (85%). The cumulative GPA will be determined using the most recent transcript.
    TEAS test taken within two years of the January 10, application deadline. The TEAS exam can only be taken twice within a year. 45 days must pass before a second attempt can be made. Tests performed at other testing facilities will be considered attempts. Scores obtained on a second attempt after 45 days will not be considered. In order to be admitted into the program, FM requires a proficient TEAS minimum score. You must retake the entire TEAS test if you fail to meet the cut score.

Admission Requirements
An applicant must adhere to points 1, point 2, or point 3.

  1. An applicant with a Senior Certificate from before 2009 and exemption from the university, or its equivalent (NQF level 4) with an M-score of 10 and a minimum of an E or D on a Higher Grade or Standard Grade pass in all of the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • English
    • Physical science
    • Biology
  2. The following subjects, all at NQF level 4, with the appropriate rating codes, are required of applicants with a National Senior Certificate with a diploma endorsement:
    • Mathematics (code 3)
    • English (code 5)
    • Physical Science (code 3)
    • Life Sciences (code 3)
    • Additional Subject 1 (code 3)
    • Additional Subject 2 (code 3)

    The minimum score for the applicant is 21, not including Life Orientation.

  3. Candidates who hold a National Certificate (Vocational) are required to have a minimum grade point average of 60% in each of the following subjects:
    • Mathematics at NQF level 4
    • English at NQF level 4
    • Physical Science at NQF level 4
    • Life Sciences at NQF level 4

As part of the selection procedure, applicants will also have to take a fitness test, interview, and psychometric test. In addition, citizenship in South Africa and payment of a non-refundable application fee are required.

As part of the application process, you might have to travel to the nearest approved learning center.

Recognition of Prior Learning minimum requirements

  • Have a valid Matric (grade 12)
  • Be 25 years and older
  • Be a registered Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA) with the HPCSA
  • possess at least five years of operational experience
  • Be currently employed by an Emergency Medical Service
  • Complete a theory and clinical assessment and pass it.

When you are accepted into the program, you will be given a written notice of the structured payments. After you have been shortlisted, you will be informed of the fitness assessment fees. Before the application deadline, all qualified applicants must pay an application fee that cannot be refunded.
