Since the National State of Disaster has ended, new rules apply to the Sassa R350 grant. Here is how to submit an application for an R350 award under the revised rules.

Applications are still being accepted for the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, which will be closed in March of 2019. One of the most popular ways to submit an SRD grant application is online.

The South African government established a new Sassa grant known as the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, also referred to as the R350 grant, in response to Covid-19 and its effects on the economy.

Before applying, applicants must ensure that they meet the following qualifying requirements:

Citizens of South Africa/permanent residents/refugees/asylum seekers/holders of special permits
Unemployed
Have no other means of earning a living or receiving financial support.
Between the ages of 18 and 60, no other social grants, UIF, or NSFAS are received.

How to Apply for the R350 Grant Online in 2024

  • Visit the SRD website.
  • Scroll down to the section under ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant?’ and click on the yellow bar.
  • Enter your mobile phone number.
  • Click “send sms,” then enter the one-time pin sent by Sassa to the number.
  • Continue the application procedure by following Sassa’s instructions.

Applications for R350 grants can also be filed via WhatsApp at:

  • Adding this number: 082 046 8553
  • Send a text message to this number.
  • In the Whatsapp message, give your name, surname, and ID number.
  • You will then receive a message outlining the next actions you must do.

Because SASSA will be cooperating with other institutions to verify the information provided by applicants, all applicants will be required to sign a declaration and consent form.

You only need to apply once per channel and not several times per channel. Sassa will only accept one application from each applicant. SASSA will contact successful applicants after their submissions have been processed.
