Online application cycles always have specific opening and closing dates. For the current year, the NSFAS application period spans four months, commencing on 3 August and concluding on 30 November 2023. Late applications will not be accepted.
To ensure that their applications are not rejected by NSFAS officials, applicants are strongly advised to submit their applications within the designated period, preferably as early as possible.
It is recommended to submit applications promptly upon knowledge of the NSFAS online application opening date. The provided web portal lists the documents below to assist with the application process.
Who Qualifies for NSFAS Funding?
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants with a combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per annum
- Individuals with a disability, with a combined household income not exceeding R600,000 per annum
- Students who commenced studies before 2018, with a household income not exceeding R122,000 per annum.
Required Supporting Documents During the Application Process:
- Provide your personal cellphone number and email address
- Copy of your ID or birth certificate
- National ID copies of parents, guardians, or spouse
- Evidence of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 if necessary
- Proof of income for parents, guardian, or spouse
- SASSA grant recipients do not need to provide evidence of income
- Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
- Individuals identified as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.
How to Apply for NSFAS Online Application when Opened:
- Visit the NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
- Create a myNSFAS account (If you don’t know how, click HERE)
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
- Update your personal information
- Answer the questions on the screen
- Upload all required supporting documents
- Click ‘submit.’
How to Check NSFAS Application Status:
- Visit NSFAS Status website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Log in to myNSFAS account (Create one if you don’t have it, click HERE)
- Enter your User ID
- Type in the password created during the application process.
- Click “Track Funding Progress” to check your NSFAS Application Status.
