It is easier than most to get a job as a nurse in South Africa, where the nursing industry is expanding rapidly. Nurses also don’t have to work in a hospital; they can work anywhere, even for a big business that needs a nurse on call.
Nurses fall into three categories: Enrolled Nurses who provide limited nursing care, Enrolled Nursing Auxiliaries who perform basic procedures and care for patients, and Registered Nurses or Nursing Sisters who carry out the duties of a nurse include:
You can accomplish one of the following in order to become a nurse:
- a four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing (BCur, or Bachelor of Nursing Science, Education, and Administration), a three-year diploma, a one-year higher certificate in auxiliary nursing, or a one-year postgraduate advanced diploma in nursing and midwifery in addition to your degree or diploma.
After receiving your certification, you will be required to perform one year of mandatory community service and register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) by passing an exam.
