The Overseas Nursing Programme (ONP) is a requirement for international students wishing to register and work in the UK nursing profession. International students can become registered nurses in the UK thanks to the ONP. After that, they can work in the NHS or the private sector.

The ONP may be incorporated into BSc (Hons) and MSc courses in International Nursing Studies. As a result, students can earn an undergraduate or graduate degree in International Nursing Studies and become registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in order to work in the United Kingdom. The ONP, which entails 400 hours of supervised practice placement, is an option for students who complete one of these full-time courses for a year. Students from other countries who attend universities in the United Kingdom are permitted to work 20 hours per week during the school year and full-time during the holidays.

The majority of nursing degrees last four years, during which students learn about a wide range of nursing topics. There will be required courses in life sciences; while students will be able to gain firsthand experience of their profession through placements in various community and medical centers. Throughout the course of the study, each aspect of nursing will be covered in lectures, tutorials, practical sessions, and group work.

Careers in Nursing

Nursing graduates can focus on four separate areas during study – adult, child, learning disability and mental health – which will shape your future career. No two days for a fully qualified nurse are ever the same, and choosing what to focus on at the beginning of your career does not mean you are held in that particular environment permanently.
