Higher Certificate in Auxiliary Nursing — One year
- You will learn all the fundamentals of caring for people in this course. You will work under a registered nurse who has earned a degree or diploma after completing the one-year program.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Sciences — Four years
- You can work as a midwife, general, community, or psychiatry nurse with this university degree. You will also have knowledge of the field’s theoretical and practical aspects by the end of this degree. In addition to the University of the Western Cape, the University of KwaZulu-Natal, the North-West University, and other public institutions, nursing programs are available in Cape Town at the UCT (University of Cape Town).
Diploma in Nursing — Three years
- You will be qualified to work as an enrolled nurse or staff nurse with this qualification. Due to the length difference between this course and the bachelor’s degree, you can anticipate less in-depth information. The Vaal University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, and other universities of technology offer a diploma in nursing qualification.
Post-graduate Advanced Diploma in Nursing — One year
- After earning your diploma and degree, you will need to enroll in an advanced degree program if you want to pursue a career in nursing management. To become a registered nurse in South Africa, there are several steps to take:

- 2) Prior to entering the workforce, new nurses must first complete a year of required community service after completing their studies.
- 3) The SANC will receive a Certificate of Completion from the school after graduation.
- 4) After that, you’ll need to sign up with the SA Nursing Council.
