To identify, plan, and implement nursing interventions to improve patient care, professional nurses use problem-solving. The nursing procedure is the name for this. The steps of the nursing process are assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. However, public hospital nurses still face a number of challenges that prevent them from making full use of the nursing process’s steps. The current study is important to nursing practice because hospitals still use the nursing process to provide high-quality patient care. The study looked at how professional nurses used the nursing process’s assessment and implementation steps at a few public hospitals in the Vhembe District, Limpopo, South Africa. The research design was qualitative, phenomenological, descriptive, explorative, and contextual. Professional nurses who were utilizing the nursing procedure in the nursing care units were selected using non-probability purposive sampling until 13 participants reached data saturation. The semi-structured one-on-one interviews were conducted with an interview guide, and the data were analyzed using Tesch’s open-coding method, which revealed themes and subthemes. The study found that the participants could do a good job of assessing patients at the time of admission, but that putting the set nursing intervention into practice was still hard on many levels. In order to provide nurses with knowledge of the nursing process, it is suggested that a problem-based learning approach be made a mandatory practical teaching method at all nursing education institutions.
