Based on research output, student pass rates, and rated scientists, Stellenbosch University is one of South Africa’s leading tertiary institutions. It is also internationally recognized as an outstanding academic institution. Stellenbosch offers courses in Property Management which are discussed below.

Where does this program fit in?

  • The Department of Business Management at the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a three-year BCom (Management Sciences) with a focus on Investment Management. Year 1 modules include Business Management, Economics, Financial Accounting, Professional Communication, Statistics, and Data Science. Modules specific to this focal area are covered in Years 2 and 3.

Why the need for this program?

  • Investment managers—also referred to as fund managers and asset managers—invest the money of their clients to increase their wealth over time. In investment funds, pension funds, and other investment ecosystems, investment managers play a crucial role. Investment management companies build client investment portfolios and uncover previously unavailable new investment opportunities. Consequently, choosing the best investments requires expert knowledge of asset classes, risks and returns, and time horizons.
  • If you are interested in a career in investments, this BCom degree will also prepare you for the international Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) Level 1 examination. This is a highly sought-after qualification in the field of investment management. Stellenbosch University is a CFA Institute University Affiliation Program participant, and the program incorporates the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK). If you complete the BCom focused on investment management successfully, you may be considered for honours studies, which cover the learning outcomes for the Level 2 and 3 CFA examinations. The CFA program can be found at www.cfainstitute.org.
  • The development of a new South African property law is the Chair’s research focus. The work focuses on the role of property law in the new constitutional regime, a reconsideration of the implications of common law property law, and the development of academic capacity in this legal field.
