All orphan caregivers should be aware, according to Minister Zulu, that they can apply for the Child Support Grant Top-Up at any SASSA office.

Request an R480 child grant increase to R720 through Sassa CSG. If you get the child support grant, you might be qualified for an R480 increase.

The following requirements must be satisfied by applicants:

• A South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee must provide primary care.
  South Africa must be where both the applicant and the child live.
  The applicant must be the child or the children’s primary caregiver.
  The applicant and spouse must meet the means test requirements, and the child or children must be under 18.
  A candidate cannot apply for more than six children who are not biological.
  State institutions cannot care for the child.

To better assist struggling caregivers, the Caregive Child Support Grant (CSG) will be increased from R480 to R720 per month by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

After the policy was approved by the cabinet in 2015, the move was made. Minister Zulu said that it was important to say that the additional R240 is not a new grant.

Orphans will be able to get a higher-value government child support grant through the Child Support Grant Top-Up. With the Minister of Finance’s approval, this policy change will take effect on June 1, 2022.

The “Top-Up” is an additional R240 that is provided to those who supplement the R480 that is included in the standard Child Support Grant. The Child Support Grant Top-Up, which is R720 per child per month, can only be applied for by relatives who are taking care of an orphaned child.
