Since submitting their requests for reconsideration, much Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applicants has been waiting for responses. The waiting period for some applicants will soon be over, according to Sassa.

You are advised to follow the application’s outcome if you haven’t heard the results of your application yet.

Sassa states that applicants who have already requested a reconsideration are required to do so for each month that their request was denied.

Sassa has stated that applicants have the right to request reconsideration if their application for reconsideration is denied.

You may be able to submit a reconsideration request by going to the SRD website at https://srd.sassa.gov.za, or you may do it over the phone by contacting Sassa representatives to lodge a reconsideration on your behalf at 0800 60 10 11.

What happens during SRD reconsideration?

• In addition to providing the department to visit or contact to resolve the issue, Sassa sends an SMS to the applicant informing them of the reason their application was denied. Applicants are advised to address the reason why their application was turned down in order to ensure a successful outcome of their reconsideration application.

As of April 2022, the new link for appeals is https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals. Type in your ID number as well as the application phone number.

When will the Sassa reconsideration be finalized?

• In terms of how long you will have to wait to learn the results of your appeal application, Sassa has stated that the Independent Tribunal will notify you electronically of the results of your appeal within a period of 60 to 90 days following the filing of the appeal.
