  • South Africa’s government provides social handouts to needy individuals. In South Africa, the SASSA is in charge of social grants. People who are on the verge of going hungry and want government support to improve their standard of living can apply for social subsidies. These frequently include the elderly, people with disabilities, and parents with young children. You must be a South African citizen, lawful permanent resident, or refugee to be eligible for a social grant (proof of such status must be provided). They must also be South African nationals.

A means test is what?

  • A “means test” is applied to some social benefits, including child support, disability, care dependency, and social relief of distress.   • Limits for recipients of social assistance grants have changed. Mrs. Lindiwe Zulu, Minister of Social Development, stated that certain of the boundaries of the Social Relief grant will be changed to allow people who were rejected to receive their awards, including past months (declined months). Even if you receive more than R350 in your account, you will still be authorized as long as you do not work. More information will be provided later.
  • If your status is Approved and you have a Payment date, you now have more alternatives for collecting payments at Merchant /Retail stores: . Checkers, Usave, Shoprite, Pick ‘n Pay, and Boxer Clients must bring their identity credentials and a cellphone with access to the number they registered with when applying for the grant when they visit a retail shop to receive the funds. A withdrawal confirmation message will be issued to the registered number that was used on application.
