The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is managed in accordance with Section 32 of the Social Assistance Act of 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is executed with the Minister of Finance’s approval.
The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is intended for South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and Special Permit Holders between the ages of 18 and 60 who have insufficient means do not receive social grants on behalf of themselves/himself, are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no other financial support.
Applicants or their representatives must confirm or supply the following information in order for SASSA to examine their application.

It is important to mention
- Please keep in mind that all information will be provided electronically, and no documents will be required to be uploaded. Please supply SASSA with a Mobile Number (cell phone number) where we may reach you to provide you with status updates on your application. This website also allows you to check the status of your application. If your application is denied, you will be able to appeal the SASSA decision by filing an appeal with the Department of Social Development for each month your application was denied. When you receive notification that your application has been denied, you will be given instructions on how to file an appeal. Failure to file an appeal for each month the application is denied will result in the original decision being upheld.

- Since April 2022, all active SRD R350 grant applications or reapplications have been automatically assessed for each month until March 2023. Existing candidates can update their screening questionnaire replies here at any time if their circumstances alter or to correct inaccuracies.
