South Cape TVET College, commonly known as SCC, is situated across the renowned Garden Route and the Little Karoo. Covering an extensive catchment area of 80,822 km2, it stands as the largest among the six TVET Colleges in the Western Cape.

SCC boasts six campuses strategically located along the Garden Route and in the Klein Karoo District. These campuses include Beaufort West Campus, Bitou Campus in Plettenberg Bay, George Campus, Hessequa Campus in Riversdale, Mossel Bay Campus, and Oudtshoorn Campus. The central office in George oversees campus management and coordination, serving as the hub for the senior management team.

Established in the year 2000, SCC played a pivotal role as a testing ground for college mergers in South Africa. The formation of SCC resulted from the amalgamation of several colleges:

  • George Technical College, established in 1968.
  • Oudtshoorn Technical College, established in 1981.
  • South Cape Technical Institute in George, operating since the early 1980s.
  • Mossel Bay College, operating as a satellite of Oudtshoorn Technical College since 1993.

The successful integration of these colleges posed challenges, particularly in adapting to changes such as the presence of a Central Office and the transformation of individual Technical Colleges into campuses of a larger institution.

In 2007, SCC introduced a new study path—the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) field—aimed at students who had discontinued their schooling after completing Grade 9. Approximately ten of these new programs were piloted at the George, Mossel Bay, and Oudtshoorn campuses. While the National N Diploma Courses were initially phased out at all campuses, they were later reintroduced in response to policy changes.
