University of KwaZulu-Natal

• The University of KwaZulu-Natal, also known as UKZN, is a South African university with five campuses in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The University of Natal and the University of Durban-Westville merged to form it on January 1, 2004. Edgewood, Howard College, Medical School, Pietermaritzburg, and Westville Campus are the five campuses.

Durban University of Technology 

• Technical university Durban University of Technology (DUT), established in 2002, provides a range of departments in addition to short courses. There are two campuses in Pietermaritzburg and five in Durban. The Brickfield, ML Sultan, Ritson, Steve Biko, and City Campuses are located in Durban. The Riverside and Indumiso campuses are located in Pietermaritzburg. One of only five technical universities in Africa to provide doctoral degrees is the University.

University of Zululand

• The University of Zululand (also known as UNIZULU) is located in KwaZulu-Natal, just south of Empangeni and north of the Thukela River. In keeping with the government’s vocational approach to higher education, UNIZULU provides a mix of university courses and career-focused programs that meet the needs of industry stakeholders as well as the rural community. As a result, the university meets the needs of both ‘entrepreneurial’ and ‘alternative’ education.

Mangosuthu University of Technology

• A technical university outside of Durban, close to Umlazi, is called the Mangosuthu University of Technology (formerly Mangosuthu Technikon). Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and real-world work experience, MUT, a Zulu-speaking institution, gives students career-oriented skills. This is done by working closely with business and industry to make sure that the curriculum for a certain qualification is both market- and field-relevant. The programs involve both in-service training and theoretical research.
