UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS

Studying Psychology at UCT

  • The department’s undergraduate programs prepare students for admission to postgraduate programs that are focused on clinical practice or research. Numerous graduates of the department have continued their education with postgraduate work at different universities across the globe because of the department’s well-regarded undergraduate psychology degree.
The department’s four main fields of competence are covered by the courses that are offered: social psychology, developmental psychology, clinical psychology, and cognitive and neuropsychology. Internationally published and renowned authorities in the subject matter instruct each course.
  • Since UCT does not recognize specialty at the undergraduate level, students are urged to take as many of these courses as they can while pursuing their undergraduate degrees. Students from all faculties can take psychology courses in the department. Students who are enrolled in faculties other than the Faculty of Humanities are recommended to ask those faculties how credits from the Psychology department can count toward their degrees.
Please be aware that no specific combination of undergraduate psychology courses confers an advantage for admission to the department’s honors and other postgraduate programs. Focusing on their areas of interest is encouraged for students. The Faculty of Humanities Undergraduate Handbook contains information about the degree structure and regulations.
