The Witwatersrand College of Nursing was the institution’s original name when it was established in 1951. It was given that name in 1980 in honor of the first principal, Dr. Ann Latsky, who served in that capacity from 1951 until 1957.

The College is conveniently located between Helen Joseph Hospital and the University of Johannesburg in the Hurst Hill and Auckland Park neighborhoods.

Our logo symbolizes:
The Shield
The clover flame represents development. The three leaves stand for the cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor training elements.
The red center
portrays the Holy Trinity, demonstrating the strong Christian philosophy of the College
The antique lamp of nursing
is an act of kindness and service to humanity.
The helmet
The helmet dates back to the time of the knights and represents the college’s head.
The helmet sign
The top portion of the emblem, the helmet sign, consists of the following:
The cross represents the comfort that nursing offers.
The ring stands for eternity and the ongoing care that nursing provides.
On either side, there are snakes that represent the medical profession.
GOVERNANCE
One of the directorates within the Gauteng Department of Health is the College.
The University of Johannesburg is a partner in providing all instruction and training.
The South African Nursing Council is the ETQA organization.
All Nursing Education is governed by the Nursing Act 33 of 2005.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – Ann Latsky Nursing College
Phase 1:
Senior Certificate
An English pass rate of at least D HG or C SG
A Biology pass rate of at least D HG or C SG

Admittance to Phase 2 requires a minimum of 15 points.
How can you know whether you get a 15-point M score?
Using the following scale, assign grades to the subjects and symbols on your matriculate certificate:

National Senior Certificate

a level 4 English pass rate of at least 50% and a level 4 life sciences pass rate (level 4)
Admittance to Phase 2 requires a minimum of 25 points.
The original mark for life orientation has been halved. E.g.  6 = 3
Use your final Grade 11 results if you are in Grade 12.
Participation in the process is contingent.

The final grade 12 results determine the final acceptance.
Phase 2:
You will be invited to an assessment if you meet the phase 1 criteria.
Phase 3:
An obligatory assessment and interview will follow further shortlisting for all candidates. Medical surveillance, which will include a medical examination and security verification of all documents, will be required of successful applicants.

Ann Latsky Nursing College Acceptance Fees.

Candidates may apply for nursing courses at Ann Latsky Nursing College or plan to do so; however, candidates may not be aware of the college’s fee structure until after the deadline, making it impossible for them to arrange payment in time. Because some of the candidates may wish to apply for loans, they must arrange the admission fee and annual fee within the due dates. Candidates will be able to plan their admission accordingly once they are familiar with Ann Latsky Nursing College colleges fee structures.

  • 4-Year Diploma –  R6000 Per Annum
  • Bridging Programme for Enrolled Nurses
    •  1st Year R3000
    •  2nd Year R4000

Post-Registration Programmes:

  • 1 Year Diploma in Midwifery – R6000 Per Annum
  • 1 Year Diploma in Community Nursing Science – R3000 Per Annum

Enrollment Programmes (Certificate Courses):

  • Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary – R 3000 Per Annum
  • Enrolled Nursing –
    • 1st Year R3000
    • 2nd Year R4000

Basic Diplomas:

  • Diploma in Nursing (General. Community, Psychiatry) and Midwifery: Four Years:  R425
  • Diploma in General Nursing Science (bridging Course):  Two Years: R683
  • Diploma in One Year Midwifery:  One Year: R254

Certificate Programmes:

  • Enrolled Nursing (EN): Two Years:  R2175
  • Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary (ENA):  One Year: R2176

Short Learning Programmes:

  • Anesthesiology for all categories of nurses (4 weeks)
  • Primary Health Care (6 weeks)
  • HIV/AIDS and TB Management Certificate (8 weeks)
