GENERAL NOTES

For admission to higher certificate or diploma programs and candidates’ educational certificates, prospective students must achieve the statutory minimum requirements based on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or similar school leaving certificate.

  • Provisional admission will be determined by levels/symbols attained in the June/September Grade 12 tests or confirmation that the current employer is processing study leave. However, the final decision to enroll in Lilitha College of Nursing will depend on the applicant’s final Grade 12 results, confirmation from the employer that the applicant has been granted study leave, and whether or not the applicant has yet attained the applicable pensionable age (55–60) for all college programs.
  • For every specific program, there are particular needs. You can assign point values to your NSC subjects or equivalent using the Admission Point System (APS):

Admission Point System

For instance, to register for a Basic Diploma, you must have an APS of at least 18 and pass the NSC/equivalent in English at Level 3 or E Symbol and Biology/Life Science at Level 4 or D Symbol.

Physical Science 60% 5 4
Mathematics 32% 2 1

  • Each program has a maximum number of students that may be admitted because of the accredited capacity set by the South African Nursing Council. It is not a guarantee that you will be accepted or registered for the chosen program automatically even if you meet the minimum requirements. Candidates will need to go through tests and interviews in order to be further screened.
Candidates with post-matriculation health-related experience or a certificate will be registered in accordance with the established quota for that category, as detailed below:

    • Scholars: 50%
    • Candidates with pre-NSC Grade 12 certificate: 20%
    • Candidates with health-related post-matric experience/certificate: 10%
    • Serving Officers: 20%
  • Please be aware that admission requirements are subject to change and that the college will heavily invest in nurses for ECDoH facilities. Additionally, the college will not invest in candidates who have tried other avenues, such as dropping out of universities, technikons, or colleges, or who have other qualifications. The candidate will be disqualified if this is found out at any point along the selection process.
