WHAT’S TESTED ON THE ATI TEAS?
TEAS scores are accepted by more health science admissions programs than any other test, but some programs require applicants to submit scores from other tests. Therefore, check with the schools you are interested in to see if they accept a TEAS score prior to studying for the test and taking it.
WHAT DOES THE TEAS TEST?
The knowledge and skills assessed by the TEAS questions are relevant to determining your readiness to begin a college program of study, as identified by health science schools. The subjects tested are typically taught to students in grades 7-12. The following are the four content areas that are tested by the TEAS:
CONTENT AREA | NUMBER OF QUESTIONS (NUMBER OF SCORED QUESTIONS) | TIME LIMIT |
---|---|---|
Reading | 53 (47) | 64 Minutes |
Mathematics | 36 (32) | 54 Minutes |
Break | – | 10 Minutes |
Science | 53 (47) | 63 Minutes |
English and Language Usage | 28 (24) | 28 Minutes |
Total | 170 (150) | 219 Minutes |
The 20 unscored questions are experimental questions that have been included to examine their validity. Do your best on each question because you won’t know if it was scored or not.
On the TEAS, incorrect responses are not penalized, so answer each question. You might answer the question correctly even if you have to guess. You can increase your chances of guessing correctly if you can eliminate one or two answer choices that are clearly incorrect.
What distinguishes the ATI TEAS from the Teas V?
The TEAS V will be retired on August 31, 2016. The ATI TEAS will be taken by prospective health science students after this date. The old and new versions of the test differ in three important ways:
- The Mathematics section now allows for the use of a calculator. The on-screen test interface includes a four-function calculator if you are taking the exam on a computer. The proctor will provide you with a four-function calculator if you are taking the test with pencil and paper. Your own calculator cannot be brought to the test.
- The test’s four content areas have not changed. However, in response to educators’ suggestions regarding the competencies that entry-level health science students ought to have, the specific competencies that are emphasized in each have been realigned.
- All scores from the previous test were shown as a percentage. The ATI TEAS continues to report your content area scores as percentages and your composite score as a number.
