Adult CCRN® specialty certification is for nurses who provide direct beside care to adult patients who are critically or acutely ill. The AACN Certification Corporation issues the CCRN® credential. Licensure as an RN or APRN in the United States, completion of clinical practice hours, and passing a certification exam are all required for Adult CCRN Certification.

The test is intended to evaluate and approve the RN’s information and ability while really focusing on the intensely/fundamentally sick patient.

Over the years, getting board certified has become extremely important. The majority of nursing homes and hospitals expect and encourage their staff members to be certified in their specialty. Nursing certification is rewarded with leadership positions and financial incentives in many hospitals.

The CCRN credential demonstrates a nurse’s mastery of the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively care for acutely ill patients and is a sign of nursing excellence. Higher-quality patient care and better patient outcomes are linked to CCRN certification.

The first step toward becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) for many nurses is CCRN® Certification.

CCRN Exam Eligibility

Licensure

• • A valid, unrestricted RN or APRN license in the United States is required.

Practice

• Competitors should meet one of the accompanying clinical practice prerequisite choices:
• • During the two previous years, practice as an RN or APRN for 1,750 hours in direct bedside care of acutely and/or critically ill patients, with 875 of those hours accrued in the year prior to application.

OR

• • Have worked as a registered nurse (RN) or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) for at least five years and have spent at least 2,000 hours providing direct bedside care to patients who are critically or acutely ill, with 144 of those hours accrued in the year prior to applying.
