How do I get a job as a pediatric nurse?
- You must first become a registered nurse (RN) before you can work as a pediatrician. You must have a degree, pass the NCLEX-RN, and apply for a license to become a registered nurse.
- To pass the NCLEX-RN and get your license, you need at least a two-year associate degree in nursing (ADN). If you choose to complete a four-year bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) instead, you might find that there are more job openings.
- Pass the NCLEX-RN exam after graduation and apply for an RN license in your state. You can think about getting additional certifications once you have your license. According to the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), certified pediatric nurses are preferred by nurse managers 90% of the time.
- The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Pediatric Nursing Board Certification or the PNCB’s Certified Pediatric Nurse certification are two options for pediatric nurses to consider.
- A current unrestricted license and at least two years of full-time pediatric nursing experience are required for both certifications.
- The Pediatric Nursing Affirmation Board requires 1800 hours of pediatric nursing experience inside the most recent two years. The American Nurses Credentialing Center requires 30 hours of continuing education and 2000 hours of pediatric nursing experience within the last three years.
