This page provides guidance on How to Apply to UJ Online for the academic year 2024-2025.

To apply to the University of Johannesburg, you will need the following documents:

  • For those with international credentials or currently in Grade 12: final high school results (Final Grade 11 results).
  • A valid South African passport, birth certificate, or alternative forms of identification.
  • Documents that have been certified in English for those issued in any language other than English.
  • In cases where English was not the primary language of instruction, provide evidence of English proficiency. The university prefers applicants with IELTS scores of 6 overall and TOEFL scores ranging from 80 to 104 for undergraduate programs. Alternatively, you can take the English Language Programme Test at the University of Johannesburg (UJELP).

  • Applicants currently enrolled in or previously attending a university within or outside the Republic of South Africa must submit an academic transcript covering the entire period of study if seeking exemption from University modules or courses.

  • While online applications are free, applicants who submit a hard copy must pay a non-refundable R200 application fee.
  • All supporting documents should be emailed or uploaded to the application platform to intappsdocs@listsrv.uj.ac.za.
  • When applying to study at UJ, students who require on-campus housing must submit a completed residence application form.

 Documents needed for Applying Online

Prospective students beginning a new qualification must upload all the needed documents, which generally consists of the listed below:

  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
  • Copy of your official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
  • Copy of your ID document (RSA students) or ID / passport (international students)
  • Copy of your marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
  • Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
