• The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is located in Johannesburg, a vibrant and fast-paced city. The university, which is proudly South African, is deeply rooted in Africa and will play an important role in realizing higher education’s potential for African advancement. UJ has grown into a diverse, inclusive, transformative, and collegial institution with over 50 000 students, more than 3000 of whom are international students from 80 different countries. UJ is one of the largest contact universities in the South African (SA) higher education system, comprising 26 public universities.
• Johannesburg University aspires to be “an international University of choice, rooted in Africa, dynamically shaping the future.” The organization’s mission is to “inspire its community to transform and serve humanity through collaborative knowledge pursuit and innovation.” These are supported by four values: imagination, dialogue, regeneration, and ethical foundation. As previously stated, the six strategic objectives provide a focused means of realizing the University’s Vision, Mission, and Values. They are also a reworking of the original University of Johannesburg Strategic Thrusts 2020, with the primary goal of achieving global excellence and stature.
