A quick reminder to applicants

Making Use of the UP Online Application

  • Please complete the following steps before beginning the application process:
  • Check the checklist at the end of this document to make sure all prerequisites are met, and

After an applicant’s application has been successfully submitted:

  • They will no longer be able to make changes to your application via the online application system.
  • They will be notified of your assigned student number via email (EMPLID). and They will be sent instructions on how to access your application results and progress on the student portal.

KEY BROWSER REQUIREMENTS! This website requires Internet Explorer (IE) 7 or 8 browsers or later.
ENTRIES IN THE DATABASE: You will be asked to provide an email address to which the University of Pretoria can send correspondence when you access the online application.

  • Please enter your email address carefully to avoid typos.
  • Create a new Gmail account if you only need a new email address.
  • As part of the application process, applicants must capture their South African National ID number or, if an international applicant, their passport number.
  • Later, you will be required to upload your ID/Passport document.
  • When applying for a postgraduate degree, you will be asked to provide information about your previous degrees (s), such as the degree description, institution, and year of graduation.
  • A complete certified academic record, as well as a conduct certificate, must be scanned and uploaded.
  • Additional or original documents may be required later, depending on the specific admission requirements.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS SCANNING AND UPLOADING:

What happens after I apply for a position?

  • After your application has been processed, the University of Pretoria will send you an email with instructions on how to access your Student Centre via the UP Student Portal, where you will be able to check your progress and status, as well as other communications and potential outstanding items.

YOUR STUDENT NUMBER WILL BE ALLOCATED:

  • If you applied online, you should receive a student number in your email inbox about 15 working days after you submitted your application. You will not be able to access the student portal using your application number. Once you have a student number, you can create a profile as a new user on the portal.
