KwaZulu -Natal College of Nursing Application 2023-2024
The KZNCN is a public nursing college in KwaZulu-Natal that is run by the Department of Health and is accredited by the South African Nursing Council. The KZNCN is a single nursing school with eleven campuses and twelve sub-campuses spread out across the province’s various districts.
KZNCN programs focus on the professional, legal, and ethical foundations of nursing in order to meet the needs of the KZN province. The academic staff is committed to helping students become skilled nurse practitioners with scientific backgrounds.
- The excellent caliber nurse training programs provided by the departmental training institutes are a point of pride for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health.
- The following recognized nurse training programs are offered by 24 institutions:
Basic nurse training programs
- 4 year comprehensive
- 2 year enrolled
- 1 year enrolled auxiliary nurse
- a two-year transition to professional nursing (only for in-service staff)
Post Registration Programmes (in-service staff only)
- 1-year midwifery
- 1 year of psychiatric nursing
- various post-registration programs, including midwifery and neonatal nursing science, child nursing science, orthopedic nursing, critical care nursing, and operating room nursing science.
Selection of candidates for nurse training
District-based selection is used to select candidates. Based on the nature of the training programs offered within each district, some districts have been grouped together. The district selection committee in the applicant’s home district should receive applications.
The following six district selection committees have been identified:
- Ethekwini, Ilembe, Ugu (Ethekwini, DC 29 and DC21) – Ethekwini District Selection Committee
- uMgungundlovu, Sisonke (DC22 and DC43) – uMgungundlovu district selection committee
- Uthukela, Umzinyathi, Amajuba (DC23, DC24 and DC25) – Dundee district selection committee
- Uthungulu (DC28) – Uthungulu district selection committee
- Zululand (DC26) – Zululand district selection committee
- Umkhanyakude (DC27) – Umkhanyakude district selection committee
Guidelines to applicants
- In January of each year, an advertisement for nurse training positions is published in the local newspapers (Ilanga, Zululand Observer, Mercury, and Witness). The requirements of the training program will be outlined in the advertisement.
- Instructions in the advertisement must be followed, such as what paperwork to include with the application letter and the catchment area.
- At this point, it is not necessary to fill out application forms (Z 83).
- On or before the closing date, an application letter and certified copies of certificates must reach the advertisement’s address.
- Applications delivered by hand will not be considered, so do not send them to a different address than the one listed in the advertisement.
- No applications should be sent to the KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing, the head office (Natalia), or the training facilities or hospitals.
- Make sure that the advertisement is read completely, especially when it comes to applicants’ responses.
- Since there were so many applications, only those that were successful will be considered.
- Please be aware that there are no waiting lists.
- Any applicant who has previously been excluded from the four-year program will not be eligible for entry into the same program.
